Full lesson: Sword & Kenbu experience

An authentic course which allows you to experience the Samurai Spirit through performing “Kenbu”, a traditional Japanese art. Learn basic techniques of “Kenbu” such as handling a Japanese sword, performing slashing techniques and some simple samurai actions. You can also learn how to handle a Japanese fan and the way of bowing and walking in traditional arts.

  1. 01Doing the traditional Japanese bow, beginning the lesson
  2. 02Types of Japanese sword and how to handle them
  3. 03Unsheathing, slashing and sheathing with the Japanese sword
  4. 04Trying on the Kimono or Hakama (if applicable), commemorative photoshoot
  5. 05How to walk, simple movements of the samurai and using the Japanese fan
  6. 06Try your hand at performing “Kenbu” to the poems written by a samurai!
  7. 07Performance by Kenbu Master

Full lesson: Folding fan & dance experience

An authentic course which allows you to experience a Full lesson of a folding fan with a chance to try on a traditional costume. You can learn how to handle a Japanese fan and the way of bowing and walking in traditional arts. You learn to imitate nature such as mountains, rivers and winds.

Performance by Kenbu Master

Watch a riveting performance by our instructors who have embodied the spirit of the Samurai. You will be able to enjoy the traditional Japanese singing style “Shigin” along with the beautiful fan dance “Shibu”. We have English explanations of the performance so it will be easy to understand even for absolute beginners.

Venue

The programs of Tokyo Samurai Kenbu have been held at a rental studio since July 2020.

We will set up the most suitable venue depending on the availability of the facility and the number of reservations.

What we need from you when you make a booking:
Preferred date and time (morning, afternoon, or evening), number of people, and names, heights, and genders of those who will experience the class.

After we have arranged the instructor and venue, we will send you a link for payment by e-mail. ( For corporate bookings, payment by bank transfer is also available ).
